If I had to choose a unique place to stay, it would definitely be Kaz Insolite and its "bubbles" in the heart of the Makes forest.
There’s nothing like being tucked away under a cozy duvet, turning off the lights, and watching the stars twinkle through the trees! That delightful feeling of your bed being placed right in the middle of the woods is just incredible.
The only problem? You won't want to close your eyes!

Then comes the morning wake-up call with the sun, followed by a short hike to admire the Cilaos caldera from the "Fenêtre des Makes" before enjoying a delicious breakfast.

Whenever I get the chance, I head to Mafate. This unique place has to be earned, as it is only accessible on foot via hiking trails! After a good walk through incredible landscapes, it’s a real pleasure to enjoy the warm atmosphere of the guesthouses, where you can share a delicious Creole meal with fellow hikers.

My favorite spot? Bringing a picnic and stopping at Trois Roches Waterfall, just after Marla, for a truly timeless moment.

My highlight: A heli-hike in the heart of Mafate, Reunion Island, where every step reveals breathtaking scenery. After the effort, a typical lunch in a guesthouse at Ilet des Lataniers, simple and welcoming. And then that unforgettable moment: the helicopter landing on a tiny platform, just wide enough for the skids. At takeoff, the aircraft tips into the void and your heart starts racing. A raw, intense experience you’ll never forget.

For all food lovers, and if you share my passion for good taste, I highly recommend a Creole cooking workshop. Deep in Cilaos at Tapacala!

My top pick for a group outing: the lava tunnels! Going underground isn’t usually my playground… yet I loved this experience, as it’s truly one-of-a-kind in the world.

With helmets and headlamps, we explore together the volcano’s interior, shaped by volcanic eruptions! An activity that creates bonds and unforgettable memories!

After enjoying a delicious coconut-chocolate macatia, I’m more than ready for a mountain bike ride down from the summit of Maïdo. Off we go! I hop on my bike and ride through forests of cryptomeria and tamarind trees. In front of me, the view of the ocean is stunning, the setting refreshing, nature speaks to me… pure bliss.
Upon arriving in Saint-Gilles, all that’s left is to settle in at the marina and enjoy a tasty tuna tartare, freshly caught!
